The Beach Capo Bianco

Capo Bianco is near Portoferraio, on the northern side of the Island of Elba, and thanks to its unique beauty it is one of the best loved beaches. There are white, almost blinding cliffs at the back of the beach that seem to plunge right into the turquoise water, in a magical combination of colors.

The beach is 260 metres long, and to a certain extent is divided into two by a row of rocks; the second part is somewhat wider with a point at the far end; the area is perfect if you want to go snorkelling, and when the flowers of the Hottentot Figs are in full bloom in April, the whole area turns fuchsia.

The beach consists of small, greyish-green felsite pebbles that the sea has made smooth, typical of this part of the coast; since the beach is just outside the Scoglietto Marine Reserve of Biology Protection, many different species of fish have made their home here.

Due to the fact that it faces north, on the days when a scirocco wind is blowing, not only is the sea very calm, but it is also even clearer than what it normally is. Even at sunset, the cliffs go from white to pink as the sun slides slowly into the sea for the night.

This is what you would call the perfect alternative if you prefer a sandy beach unlike any other, because even today the entire area is exactly how Mother Nature created it.

You can get to the beach by starting off at Le Ghiaie, in Portoferraio, and going along Via Einaudi for about 800 metres. You will see the sign for the beach on a narrow road with a large, grit car park at the end, and once here, just go down the steps until you get to the beach.
